# Truenote

> Your money, in the AI you already use. Your accounts through Plaid plus the plan behind them, in one place you own; Claude, ChatGPT or your own script reads it with your permission. Read-only to your banks.

Canonical: https://usetruenote.com/

Your money, in the AI you already use. Connect your accounts once, then ask Claude or ChatGPT what's left after the bills, whether you'll owe in April, or when the vacation fund gets there.

Truenote gathers your bank, card, loan and brokerage accounts (through Plaid, read-only) and keeps them next to what a bank can't tell: a spending plan, savings buckets, goals, each income source and what to set aside for taxes, which business a charge belongs to, notes and plans. Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code or your own scripts read it over MCP and a REST API, each with permissions you can see, narrow and revoke.

It never moves money. Agents can only read what you allow and write Truenote's own records.

Try it without an account: https://app.usetruenote.com/sign-in?demo=1&utm_source=usetruenote.com&utm_medium=markdown&tn_page=home&tn_button=intro-demo makes a week-long copy of the sample household.

## How it works

1. **Connect your accounts.** Bank, card, loan and brokerage accounts through Plaid. Balances every day, transactions as they post, holdings, what you owe. Truenote gets read access and nothing else.
2. **Add what a bank can't tell.** A spending plan, savings buckets on one account, goals, each income source and its tax set-aside, which business a charge belongs to. Typed in, or written by your agent as you talk.
3. **Connect an agent.** Paste one URL into Claude or ChatGPT, or run one command for Claude Code. A consent screen shows what it may see; hide any account or business. Everything is ticked; untick what it shouldn't have.
4. **Ask.** What's left after the bills, whether you'll owe in April, when the vacation fund gets there. It answers from your own numbers and writes down what you decide.

The MCP server is `https://app.usetruenote.com/mcp`; the REST API is `https://app.usetruenote.com/v1`.

## Ask it what you'd ask a good bookkeeper

It answers from your accounts and your plan, and keeps them up to date when you tell it something. An exchange with Claude over MCP, on the sample household (its real seeded data):

> **You:** How much is in the vacation bucket, and when does it reach $8,000?
>
> **Claude:** $7,732, in Vacations on Joint Savings ··7730. The plan's Vacation / Travel line puts $346.15 in every payday, so it passes $8,000 on Friday, November 6.
>
> **You:** From now on, put every Lowe's charge under Greenway Lawn.
>
> **Claude:** Done. A rule puts Lowe's under Greenway Lawn from here on, and the 6 past charges ($788 since Nov 2025, on Harbor Rewards) moved with it. Nothing changed at the bank.

More things to ask:

- "Which bills hit before next payday, and what's left after them?"
- "Will we owe this year? How much more should come out of each paycheck?"
- "Are we on track for six months of runway before preschool starts?"
- "Remember that we want to refinance below 5%."

See [Things to ask](/docs/prompts.md).

## Truenote never moves money

- **Read-only, forever.** No endpoint that moves money exists in the code. Agents write only Truenote's own records.
- **Sealed tokens.** Plaid access tokens and your documents are sealed with AES-256-GCM, keys kept outside the database.
- **You decide what each agent sees.** What it may read, which accounts stay hidden, whether it may write: on one page, changed in one click.
- **Yours to take out.** Export everything as JSON or CSV. Delete the account and every bank is removed at Plaid too.

See [Security](/security.md).
