Connect Claude Code to Truenote
One command adds Truenote as an MCP server in Claude Code, so it can read your finances from the terminal.
- 1
Add the server
Run: claude mcp add --transport http truenote https://app.usetruenote.com/mcp (add --scope user to have it in every project).
- 2
Authenticate
In Claude Code run /mcp, choose truenote, then Authenticate. Your browser opens Truenote's consent screen.
- 3
Approve
Sign in, choose what Claude Code may see, and allow it. New connections start read-only; a write asks for more.
- 4
Ask
Ask: "How much should I set aside for my January 15 estimated payment?"
claude mcp add --transport http truenote https://app.usetruenote.com/mcp
Then /mcp → truenote → Authenticate.
Scripts next to it
For a script rather than a chat, make a personal access token in Truenote (Connected agents → New access token) and send it as a bearer token to /mcp or to the REST API under /v1. See Scripts and the API.
Uploading a document from the terminal
Give the connection documents:write and ask Claude Code to file a paystub: it calls prepare_upload, gets a one-time link, and sends the file itself with curl. The file never passes through the model.
