Prompts that work well

Questions the tools answer well, from the overview to the tax projection, and the ones that write.

Truenote hands agents compact, pre-added answers (the overview, the spending plan, plan vs actual, the tax projection, buckets) as well as raw transactions, so questions like these work well:

Reading

  • “How much should I set aside for my January 15 estimated payment?”
  • “How much is left in our Wants share this month, and what changes when the car is paid off?”
  • “Which bills and subscriptions hit in the next two weeks? Anything we’re paying for and not using?”
  • “Are we on track for six months of runway before the baby comes in March? What would close the gap?”
  • “Will we get money back or owe for the year? How much more should come out of each paycheck to break even?”
  • “How much has the consulting client paid this year, and how lumpy is it month to month?”
  • “Compare the business’s money in and out this season with last year.”
  • “What’s waiting in my Review queue?”

Writing (asks for context:write)

  • “Move $500 from Emergencies to Vacations.” (Truenote’s ledger only; nothing moves at the bank)
  • “Charge the vet visit to Pets and make it a rule.”
  • “From now on, put every Lowe’s charge under the business.”
  • “Add a plan line: $180 a month for the gym, until next June.”
  • “Remember that we want to refinance if rates drop below 5%; tag it mortgage.”
  • “Draft a plan for 12 weeks of unpaid leave starting in March and save it.”
  • “Here’s my latest paystub; update my income source from it.” (with documents:write, the agent files the paystub too)

How agents should start

get_overview first, then get_context before advising or writing anything: it explains the household and gives the ids the write tools need. Prefer the summaries (spending_summary, get_plan, plan_vs_actual, get_recurring) to paging through transactions. “Household” means the personal entities; each business’s money is reported on its own.
